University of South Australia
The University of South Australia is proud to count the South Australian School of Art (SASA) amongst its founding institutions. Well-known past and present alumni who began their careers at SASA include Margaret Preston, Hans Heysen, Stella Bowen, Ivor Hele, Jeffrey Smart, Barbara Hanrahan, Mandy Martin, Aleks Danko, Hossein Valamanesh and Zhong Chen.
As one of the oldest art schools in Australia, the innovative tradition that marked the SASA at the turn of the century continues today within the flagship faculty, UniSA Creative. Building on this tradition of creative innovation, coupled with a research focus that promotes critically reflexive creative practice and engagement with the global challenges of today, UniSA Creative offers a number of undergraduate, postgraduate and research degree programs, eligible for support.
From UniSA Creative, students gain skills in critical analysis and creative thinking which inform practice, and they graduate as career-ready professionals with a commitment to the values of diversity and inclusion. They are supported by academics who have rich practical and theoretical expertise, and who conduct creative research through UniSA’s Australian Research Centre for Interactive and Virtual Environments (IVE), the Creative People, Products and Places (CP3) research centre, and the interdisciplinary design-community-industry lab, Match Studio.
