Gemma Salomon

Gemma Salomon is a graduate from Flinders University. She completed a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Drama) in 2022.

Gemma is the founder of Whisper Tree Productions – a femme-focussed genre film house based in South Australia. She was the recipient of the Helpmann Academy Creative Innovator Program major prize of $20,000 seed funding 2023. A South Australian Screen Award winner, in 2022 she co-directed the Ramsay Art Prize winning video performance work “Witness” by performance artist Ida Sophia, and her horror short “The Eaters” had its world premiere at SXSW Sydney in 2024. Gemma uses the gothic and surreal to explore the monsters we create when we abandon ourselves and each other.

I can’t talk about the last few years without raving about the Helpmann Academy. Their seed funding enabled me to create a literal dream job for myself - developing genre f ilms from a femme perspective. They provided the scaffolding for me to grow safely and have catapulted my career forward.
