Open Masterclass with Troy Roberts 14.05.26

Current students and graduates from the Adelaide University’s Elder Conservatorium of Music and School of Performing Arts are invited to attend an exclusive Open Masterclass with visiting artist, Saxophonist and Multi-instrumentalist, Troy Roberts.

Troy Roberts will workshop with three student ensembles, providing critique, feedback, solutions, and creative challenges. Dr Lyndon Gray, Lecturer in Jazz Bass at the Elder Conservatorium of Music and School of Performing Arts will facilitate a conversation with Troy on band-leading, side-personning, and workshopping original material.

Now based in New York City, Troy Roberts trained at WAAPA (Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts), graduating with Honours at the young age of 19 and holds a Masters of Music from the University of Miami in 2007. He is a three-time GRAMMY Award nominee* and was a semi-finalist in the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition.

Roberts has performed in Europe and the US extensively with artists such as James Morrison, Aretha Franklin, Van Morrison, Jeff ‘Tain’ Watts, Joey DeFrancesco, Christian McBride, Sammy Figueroa, Billy Hart, Dave Douglas, Orrin Evans and Kurt Elling, in addition to recording his own material, most recently touring his latest album, Green Lights.

“Roberts’ music seems to have been crafted by a superior musical intellect with a grasp of history and context as well as a sense of time and place, and – above all a sense of poetry, the ability of a storyteller and a wonderful sense of timing.” Raul DaGama

This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see Troy Roberts at work. Book early to secure your spot!
