How to leave a gift in your Will
Take a moment to reflect
Consider the role that art and artists have played in your life – the performances, exhibitions, teachers, and experiences that have stayed with you.
Have a chat with us
Come talk to us about how a gift in your Will can support the future for emerging creatives.
Talk with your loved ones
Many supporters tell their family about their intention to include a charitable gift so it feels like a natural expression of who they are and what they value.
Speak with your solicitor
Ask your solicitor to include a gift to Helpmann Academy when you make or update your Will, using our suggested wording as a guide.
Let us know (if you wish)
If you choose to tell us about your decision, we can thank you personally, ensure we understand your wishes, and keep you connected with the artists and programs your gift will one day support.
Ways to include Helpmann Academy in your Will
There are several flexible options you may wish to discuss with your solicitor:
Residuary gift
A percentage or share of your estate, after other specific gifts and expenses have been met.
Percentage gift
A set percentage of your overall estate (for example, 5% or 10%)
Specific gift
A nominated amount of money or a specific asset
We strongly recommend seeking independent legal advice to ensure your Will reflects your wishes.
Suggested wording for your Will
The following wording is a useful starting point to discuss with your solicitor:
“I give [describe your gift: e.g. the sum of $… / …% of my estate / …% of the rest and residue of my estate] to the Helpmann Academy For Visual and Performing Arts, (ABN 79 315 593 044) for its general purposes. A receipt from the Chief Executive Officer or other authorised officer will be sufficient discharge to my executor or trustees.”
You are welcome to direct your gift towards a particular purpose (for example, supporting an award in perpetuity, or directing your support towards a particular discipline, such as music or visual art), but we encourage you to allow some flexibility so that Helpmann can respond to the evolving needs of future creatives.
Common questions
Do I need to be wealthy to leave a gift in my Will?
Not at all. Every gift, regardless of size, makes a difference. Many bequests are a small percentage of an estate, given after family and friends have been provided for.
Do I have to tell you if I’ve included Helpmann Academy in my Will?
No – that is entirely up to you. However, letting us know means we can thank you, record your wishes, and keep you informed.
Can I change my mind?
Yes. You can update your Will at any time. We understand that circumstances change.
